Our Mission

25’-26’ Horace Mann Resource Fair

The mission of The T.O.U.C.H. Closet Inc. is to meet the basic needs of students facing challenging situations such as (but not limited to) divorce, loss of income, domestic violence, illness, poverty, or the death of a loved one. Through partnerships with schools in the USD 259 district, we provide undergarments, coats, and new or gently used shoes—helping students feel comfortable, confident, and supported so they can focus on learning and growing

Our Story

In October 2015, Sarah and Benita were serving with the Hand-Up Outreach Ministry through New Beginnings SDA Church, handing out personal hygiene packets and Quik Trip gift cards to people experiencing homelessness in downtown Wichita. While there, they noticed many children in the park, which sparked a conversation about finding ways to help children in need. They talked about collecting coats and shoes for local elementary schools—but at the time, the idea didn’t fully take shape.

After retiring in June 2017, Benita began considering her next steps—whether to start a business or focus on helping children in need. Her love for children won out. She called Sarah, who immediately said yes. Together, they prayed for guidance, and the name “The T.O.U.C.H. Closet, Inc.”—Touching Others Until Change Happens—was revealed. Excited about the vision, Benita shared the idea with everyone she met. During a conversation with Michelle Blount, she mentioned The T.O.U.C.H. Closet, and a few days later, Michelle called back eager to join the mission.

The three of them collaborated, gathered input from their families, and began turning their vision into reality. Today, they are confident that this work is God’s will—everything has been falling into place perfectly to support children in need.
